Hello, I’m Angellic Ross! Growing up, I was always fascinated by movies, television and the talented black actresses that broke the glass ceiling in the media. This fascination led to my involvement in performance throughout middle and high school. As I grew older, I realized my talents extended to other areas which has led to my goal of becoming a producer.

My diverse experience in strategic media planning and film production has given me the skillset to approach producing with a dual creative and strategic lens. I understand the filmmaking process from script development to post production through my various roles on projects. At the same time, I am able to look beyond production and see the broader picture of how we market the film to the right audiences who will either fund or watch the film.

Born and raised in Milwaukee, I attended Northwestern University where I received my degree in Performance Studies, Minor in Film & Media Studies, and Certificate in Civic Engagement. In 2015, I served as Miss Black Wisconsin USA where I utilized my platform to encourage young women of color to pursue careers in film. After graduating in 2016, I lived in Guatemala for one month producing revoLUZion, a documentary about a local non-profit called Los Patojos. revoLUZion won first place at the My Hero Festival in 2017.  Since then, I’ve worked on multiple projects in the Chicago area.

My most recent film Mason follows a Black pregnant woman suffers from medical complications and vicious hallucinations, who fears the visions are a warning of her and her unborn child's untimely demise. The film was recently selected for the Chicago Horror Film Festival and the Horror Underground Film & Screenplay Festival in Canada. I am currently producing my first narrative feature film, Go to the Body, which won the Chicago International Film Festival pitch competition.

Outside of producing, I am Advisory Board Member of Sisters in Cinema and was a part of the inaugural class of Full Spectrum Features and the Chicago Film Office's Chicago Independent Producers Lab. In 2021, I also began teaching various producer classes in partnership with local organizations.

In addition to my film work, I spent several years as a strategic paid media planner at an advertising agency. I currently works for a global fast food and coffee brand on the Global Media team where I provide strategic guidance and best paid media practices for the brand globally.

Vision Statement

My vision as filmmaker falls into three categories:

1.     Business - The key to diversifying the images on the screen is to make an impact behind the scenes. Currently, I’m pursuing opportunities to build my network and develop my skills in producing – specifically on the business side. My long-term goal is to start my own production company that specializes in financing, marketing, and distributing films by people of color and women (nationally and internationally) to a mainstream audience.

2.     Unique Stories - Hollywood is just beginning to scratch the surface of diversity, but there’s still a long way to go. As a young Black Woman filmmaker from Milwaukee, I bring a unique voice and perspective to the industry. I’m specifically interested in developing and producing projects that explore the lives and history of people of color, utilize experimental film techniques, and highlight stories of humanity through documentary.

3.     Community - I’m passionate about providing others with the same opportunities that were given to me through mentoring and workshops for youth. Additionally, I want to use my skills to assist non-profits or those who cannot afford production or marketing services for free or a lower cost.
